Edward Sevcik, 84

Edward Clarence Sevcik, 84, of Northfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Three Links Care Center in N o r t h f i e l d , with his family at his side.

He was born September 9, 1927, on the family farm in Erin Township, Rice County, a son of Charles and Albina (Kuchinka) Sevcik. He attended country school, and following his education he worked on the farm until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946. Eddie served as a communications expert in California, and following his honorable discharge in 1947, returned to the farm at Lonsdale. He married Elaine Julia Havlicek on June 24, 1952, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli. They lived in Lonsdale and Eddie worked for Carnation Milk Company. In 1955, they moved to Northfield, where they owned and operated Eddie’s Refrigeration, Heating and Cooling, until retiring in 1988. Elaine died on May 29, 2008. Eddie was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, the Knights of Columbus and the Northfield American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, eating Czech food, and supporting his family’s activities.

He is survived by children Galen (Brenda), of Atlanta, Bonnie (Denny) Waite, Lakeville, Kevin (Katie), Cottage Grove, and Lori (Mark) Loeb, Ft. Collins, CO; 11 grandchildren Kevin James, Shannon and Rachel Sevcik, Chloe and Sam Waite, Sarah, Michael (Blair), Lauren and Emily Sevcik, and Sophia and Beatrice Loeb; a sister Adeline (Edward) Hruby, Lonsdale; brother-in-law Francis Havlicek, New Prague; sisters-in-law Angela Skluzacek, Lonsdale, and Noreen Kuchinka, Faribault; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; his parents; and five brothers George, Joseph, Alois, James and Ray.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, with Rev. Dennis Dempsey officiating.

Interment with military honors was held at Calvary Cemetery in Northfield. Casketbearers were his grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield, and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the funeral.
