Emily J. Erkel went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2013, in Bend, Oregon. She was the third daughter born to Frantisek and Mary (Jirak) Rynda on January 31, 1918, in Montgomery, MN. Her sisters, Mayme and Helen preceded her in death, as did great-granddaughter, Lexi.
Emily married Milton Harvey Erkel of Le Center on January 27, 1940. Harvey passed away in November of 2001. They had been married 61 years.
Emily was the mother of three children: Avis B. Erkel of San Jose, CA; Shelley M. Erkel of San Jose, CA and Matthew M. Erkel and wife Karen of Bend, OR. She was the grandmother of six and the great grandmother of five. She also left behind her favorite niece, Jacqulyn (Wheeler) Bermudez of Woodbury, MN.
She enjoyed life ‘till the end, having traveled often with Harvey before he died. She particularly enjoyed her many trips to Alaska and Hawaii, her Country & Western music and Hawaiian songs.
She lived in Minnesota, Washington, Oregon and California, returning to Oregon in 1980, always taking a slip of the Rynda Peony from the original Rynda farm and planting it at each new residence.
A memorial service will take place at a later date when her ashes will be scattered in Coos Bay, OR near the ocean.
