Enchanting musical sparkles this weekend
Drama students from Tri-City United Schools present Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella musical with two productions Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14, at 7 p.m., and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday, Nov. 15.
The musical is a very new production — it began in 2013, based on the 1957 television movie with Julie Andrews. Director Sarah Mejia said the musical version has a slightly different message than that of the Disney film.
“The message teaches us that dreams and wishes can come true. However, this version focuses on how you can't just sit around and wait for your wishes to come true. You need to help yourself and work at what you want to achieve. It teaches perseverance, and not giving up on your goals or dreams,” she said.
Everyone knows that the Disney version is very magical, as far as animal characters are involved, but the original Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella has no animal characters in it. Plus, the music is all different from the music in the Disney version.
