ENM Council discusses Speedway’s PUD

The Elko New Market City Council gave direction to city staff to work with management of the Elko Speedway on proposed changes for its Planned Unit Development (PUD). During its Thursday, Feb. 9, meeting the council was presented with three proposals for the raceway:

• Increase to the number of allowed annual race events

• Allow modifications to the signs around the race way

• Allow simultaneous race and drive-in movie events

Under the proposal for the signs, track management wishes to use two existing billboard signs for onpremise advertising. One sign is located north of the oval track and the other is located east of it. They also requested a new monument sign for the business office building, south of the midget track along France Avenue. City staff suggested conditions to the last sign including that it be subject to the city’s sign permit, sign copy be related to either principal office use of the property (currently Ryan Contracting) or speedway functions/activities and the sign be 7-feet tall to be consistent with the maximum height requirement.
