ENM Council holds Truth in Taxation Hearing

The Elko New Market City Council had a brief presentation about its 2018 draft budget at its Thursday, Dec. 7, meeting. At that same meeting, the council held its Truth in Taxation Hearing with one person showing up with questions about his property value. Scott County Commissioner Tom Wolf was present at the meeting and spoke to him about that. Property values are covered and set by the county assessor and not by cities.

Elko New Market’s proposed 2017 property tax levy payable in 2018 is $2,168,935, which is an increase of $114,252 or about a 5.56 percent increase from last year. That budget includes adding a new police officer, a new public works employee and an additional debt service levy.
