ENM Council organizes for 2018

Council re-organized for 2018 at its Thursday, Jan. 11, meeting with the naming of council members to represent the city to numerous boards, committees and area organizations, the acting mayor, official depositories and the official newspaper.

Mayor Bob Crawford said he would like to remain as the representative for the Scott County Association for Leadership an Efficiency (SCALE) and the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA). Council member Joe Julius said he would like to also represent the city. It was decided that Julius will be the alternate for SCALE and council member Trish Timmons will be the alternate for MVTA. The council unanimously approved the proposal.

Timmons nominated council member Josh Berg as the acting mayor with Julius seconding. The motion passed. Berg will chair the meetings that Mayor Crawford is unable to attend.

Approved as the representatives to the Scott Joint Prosecution Association and Joint Regional Training Facility Board are City Administrator Tom Terry and Police Chief Steve Mortenson. Timmons will represent the city on the I-35 Solutions Alliance and Terry will be the alternate. It was noted Timmons was recently appointed as the vicechair of the group that discusses situations and future roadwork for Interstate 35. Council member Kate Timmerman will represent the city to the Fire Relief Board and the Community and Civic Events Committee.

For the official depository, city staff recommended they continue with New Market Bank and the League of Minnesota Cities 4M Fund. It was noted that due to potential changes this year regarding the city’s investment strategies that staff may request the council to revisit it. Julius asked what that detailed. Terry said the city may have to look at a different program for its investments on whether to put it in liquid cash, checking or another option. The council unanimously....
