ENM discusses broadcasting city council meetings

The Elko New Market City Council continued a discussion of broadcasting its meetings. At its Thursday, Jan. 12, meeting the council directed city staff to get quotes on equipment.

City Administrator Tom Terry explained on January 12 that in gathering information they found a range of $5,800 to $25,000. He said city staff recommended a budget of $5,800 to $9,500 for equipment. With that budget, possible equipment could be:

• One to two HD (High Definition) digital cameras with tilt, pan, zoom capabilities

• Integration with the existing audio recording system

• Remote operation of the system via a tablet device (ability for staff to operate the system during a meeting)

• Video output in format compatible with common video editing software

• Installation, programing and other associated system components.

The purchase and installation of the system could be funded by the city’s PEG fees as part of its franchise agreement with local cable franchises Integra and Mediacom. The current balance is $13,200. Anything additional would have to be funded by reserves.
