ENM discusses possible roundabout
The Elko New Market City Council recently discussed a proposed plan for a roundabout at the intersection of Scott County Roads 2 and 91, which in the town are, respectively, Main Street and Natchez Avenue.
City Engineer Rich Revering of the firm Bolton & Menk, Inc., informed the council at its Thursday, Aug. 25, meeting that the firm is working on an update of a proposed roundabout plan at that intersection. The plan would be submitted to Scott County for its Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). He noted that as part of the application for the program they needed to get the estimated cost of the project to below $2 million. He said a way to get the costs down was to take out some aspects of the roundabout plan.
The council reviewed safety operations at the intersection during its August 11 meeting and it had been suggested that a previous proposal for a roundabout be updated. Under the new proposal, County Road 2’s two lanes going west would converge into one lane at the....
