Enrollment continues upward trend

Preliminary enrollment figures from New Prague Area Schools show a 1.4 percent increase over the 2016- 17 school year, with the biggest change a 4.6 percent increase at the middle school level, according to numbers released by the district last week.

Numbers were pretty much where they were expected, Superintendent Tim Dittberner said during the August 28 school board meeting. Enrollment at district elementary schools and the high school was relatively flat, with an increase of just a few students.

In fact, two of the three elementary schools - Falcon Ridge and Eagle View, saw a slight drop in enrollment. that was offset, though, by an increase of 20 students at Raven Stream.

The Compass Learning Center, an alternative school for high school students, saw an increase of six students to 44 as it moved into its new facilities adjacent to Falcon Ridge.

Enrollment has increased in each of the last five years in the district, and this year’s numbers are in the middle of the range. Overall, the district has seen a 5.9 percent increase in enrollment between 2012 and 2017.
