Falcon Ridge roof bid is well under estimate

The New Prague Area School Board awarded the bid for a roofing project at Falcon Ridge Elementary School to Kato Roofing of Mankato.

Kato Roofing was the lowest of nine bidders for the project. Ryan Hoffman of ICS Consultants said their bid of $691,000 was well under the estimated project cost.

Also during the meeting, Superintendent Tim Dittberner talked about the other construction projects currently underway in the district. He said the middle school project has had a good start, with the foundation for the new auxiliary gym and kitchen area being put in place on the north side of the building and excavation work well underway on the west side.

He said that MetCon, which is the contractor for both the middle school and Central Education Campus projects, is making preparations for the CEC project while awaiting final approval of the project from the Minnesota Department of Education. That approval is expected in the net two weeks. On Tuesday, Dittberner said they will be breaking ground in late April on the swimming pool area to the north of the CEC gym. Initially he thought the work would start earlier, but learned Tuesday that the precast forms for the pool take five weeks to manufacture, so the excavation work won't get underway until later.
