Families enjoy fun and games during Lonsdale’s “Family Fun Nite”

Families in the Lonsdale area had more than fireworks to look forward to this year in commemorating Independence Day. The City of Lonsdale and the Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce sponsored several family fun events that invited people of all ages to come out for the evening and enjoy the food, fun and games.

The evening began around 5:30 with Main Street Events. Many started the evening off building sand castles in the Mayor’s “sandbox,” a small lot in town filled with sand. “The idea for the sandbox was the Reverend Ron Mixer’s who is a Chamber board member,” Mayor Tim Rud explained. “I had some sand hauled in and helped judge the sandcastles.”

Throughout the evening, families enjoyed the activities by playing on the inflatable play centers, having a massage, getting their faces painted, or simply listened to the live music while chatting with friends.

The petting zoo with pony rides and food vendors added a carnival-like atmosphere to the evening.

“I have to thank all of the Chamber members as well as other businesses and individuals in the Lonsdale area that contributed to make this evening happen,” stated Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce president Barb Cole. “It’s so nice having people wanting to be a part of this. I also want to thank the many volunteers who helped with the fireworks and the activities in town.”

At 7:30 p.m. at the DRS park, the Lonsdale Aces baseball team played the Veseli Warriors.

A dazzling fireworks show ended the evening with a bang.

“What an exciting time in Lonsdale for families to come downtown and gather,” Mayor Tim Rud exclaimed. “Jim Kodada and Jeff Smisek did a wonderful job again this year with the fireworks.”
