No one was injured, but two New Prague area families were forced from their homes last weekend after a pair of house fires. The New Prague Fire Department fought both blazes, as well as an earlier one Christmas morning.
Friday fire
The department was called to the John Fucile home, 3755 East 250th Street in Cedar Lake Township. at about 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26.
Fire Chief Jim Becker said the garage was engulfed when firefighters arrived and the fire had moved on to the attic of the home. Firefighters were on site battling the blaze for five hours. While they managed to confine the fire to the attic, there was water damage throughout the home. Two vehicles in the garage were destroyed. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Elko New Market, Lonsdale and Prior Lake fire departments assisted in fighting the fire.
On Monday, Fucile said the furniture at the house was also destroyed. John and Kit Fucile have their own real estate business, with one daughter in college and the other a student at New Prague High School. The family is staying with friends.
