Five grapplers named All Conference

Even though there were no wrestlers who advanced to the state tournament last weekend, the performance on the mat earned all conference honors from the Minnesota River Conference (MRC) for five wrestlers from Tri-City United High School.

 

Caleb Whipps, an eighth grader, wrestled at 106 pounds during the season. He is the son of Andy and Jessica Whipps, and is a first-year letter winner. Caleb also plays football and baseball.

 

Nick Johnson wrestled at 113 pounds. He is the son of Jeff and Peggy Johnson and is a four-year letter winner and state entrant from last year. Nick also plays football and baseball for the Titans.

 

Justin Kopet was on the mat in the 138-pound category. The son of Rich and Anne Kopet is a six-year letter winner who also plays football for the Titans. He has 126 career wins.

 

Brandon Balma is the son of Brian and Stephanie Balma who also plays football and runs track for the Titans. Brandon is a three-year letter winner.

 

Jose Reyes, a three-year letter winner is the fifth Titan to be named all conference. The son of Joe and Devin Reyes also participate in football and track. He is a three-year letter winner.

 

The Conference also named two Titans honorable mention. They were Zach Mikel, a senior who wrestled at 160 pounds, and

 

Tyler Schroer, a junior, who wrestled at 182 pounds.

Tri-City United Titan Coach Brian Mikel was named MRC Wrestling Coach of the Year.
