Floor hockey team closes regular season Thursday
The New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team will close its regular season at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, when they host the South Suburban Jets at the Central Education Campus gym. New Prague will have a one-game playoff next week to qualify for the state tournament March 20 and 21 in Bloomington. Playoff pairings and locations will be determined after Thursday's game. New Prague was 6-6 going into a makeup game against Dakota United Wednesday, Mar. 4.
Last week the Trojans lost a 6-5 contest at Winona Friday, Feb. 27.
The Trojans and Winhawks had a close contest. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period, with Adam Jeurissen scoring unassisted for the Trojans.
Jeurissen and Alex Palma scored in the second for New Prague, with Palma also picking up an assist, but the Trojans trailed 4-3 after two. Each team scored twice in the third. For New Prague it was Anna Busch, with an assist from Phillip Weber, and Alex Palma, with an assist from Sam Bisek.
Shots were nearly even, Winona held a 61-52 edge in shots on goal. Marcus Schoenbauer had 55 saves.
