Floor hockey team opens season with split
The New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team split its first two games, losing to Owatonna and defeating Winona.
The team was scheduled to play at St. Paul Humboldt on Wednesday, Jan. 26. They will travel to Bloomington Kennedy to face South Suburban on Monday, Jan. 31, then will host Hudson, WI, on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at the Central Education Campus gym.
Huskies 10, Trojans 8
After a slow start, the Trojans got their offense on track and challenged a tough Owatonna squad, but the Huskies prevailed 10-8.
New Prague goals were by Matthew Schoenbauer (assisted by Alex Palma); Palma (from Schoenbauer); Sam Bisek (from Palma); Palma (from Brandon Taylor); Schoenbauer (from Palma); Palma (from Sara Oxborough); Schoenbauer (unassisted); and Schoenbauer (unassisted).
Schoenbauer had four goals and an assist while Palma had three goals and three assists.
Goaltender Marcus Schoenbauer had 44 saves as Owatonna outshot the Trojans 54-49.
Trojans 13, Winhawks 8
New Prague had a strong outing against the Winhawks and earned their first win of the season.
Goals were by Palma (from Schoenbauer); Palma (from Schonebauer); Palma (from Bisek); Schoenbauer (from Palma); DJ Gilder (from Palma); Kayla Doran (from Palma)' Gilder (from Doran); Schoenbauer (from Palma); Philllip Weber (from Gilder); Gilder (from Palma); Bisek (unassisted); Doran (from Eric Johnson); and Bisek (unassisted).
Palma had three goals and five assists, Gilder had three goals and one assist and Bisek had two goals and one assist.
Marcus Schoenbauer stopped 29 shots as New Prague outshot Winona 51-47.
