Former area priest admits to abuse
A retired priest living in New Prague reportedly admitted in 1995 that he molested a young boy while working on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
A news story on Minnesota Public Radio said that Father Clarence Vavra, a New Prague native who served in New Prague, New Market, Montgomery, Shieldsville and Kilkenny, among other parishes, was forced to take early retirement in 2003, and was told he could not publicly say Mass, dress as a priest or represent himself as a priest.
