Friedens offers fun and fellowship
Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church had fun and fellowship during its annual outdoor service and hog roast on Sunday, Aug. 11.
Pastor Henry Koch estimated they had 148 people attend the 10 a.m. service, who also stayed for the potluck picnic. Both the service and the picnic were held at the park down from the church at 28983 181st Ave. The church west of New Prague had past parishioners visit during the event. Among them, was retired Pastor Wil Neuman, 84.
"I believe he was the one who started this tradition," said Koch of Neuman.
There were a variety of activities, including face painting for the children, an inflatable jump house, an impromptu game of horse shoes, a balloon toss and water balloon fight. A new item this year was horse races. Using inflatable toy horses, entries would bounce along a course to the finish line.
"It was a little hard on the knees, but it was fun," said Koch who participated in one of the races.
Members of the church council also took part in one of the races.
"We were thankful for the good weather," said Koch. It was a relaxing atmosphere and an enjoyable afternoon."
