The two-week filing period for New Prague Area School Board elections began this week and continues until Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Three members of the current board are up for election. At least one - Jerry Walerius - has announced that he is not running for another term.
Being on the board can be a thankless job at times, but current board members have said it can also be very rewarding. The current board has done a tremendous job of putting the New Prague Area Schools in a position where they are looking for a strong, fiscally sound future. Good candidates are needed to keep things moving forward. We urge residents to consider serving the community by filing as a candidate.

Minnesota summers offer so much that it’s hard to keep track. Whether you enjoy a day at the lake, an evening hike or an overnight camping trip, there are plenty of options available to you.
The summer months are two-thirds gone. It’s August 1, and before you know it, Labor Day will be here and then the start of school. Already, we’re heading into the home stretch with all of the summer activities. August is one of the busiest months in terms of celebrations in this area. You’ve got church festivals in New Prague, Lonsdale and Veseli (The Ho-Down), the Le Sueur County Fair, Pioneer Power Show, Lonsdale Community Days, the Music Fest at the Park Ballroom in New Prague and Webster Harvest Days.
As we’ve seen this year, summer weather can be here one day, and gone tomorrow. Get out and enjoy the final month before it’s gone.
