Girls 2nd, boys 5th at Missota CC meet

New Prague High School's boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Missota Conference championships Thursday, Oct. 11, with the girls finishing second and the boys fifth.

The Trojans were scheduled to run in the Shakopee Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 16. They are preparing for the Section 2AA championships, to be held in Chaska on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Girls take second

The Trojans had three girls earn all-conference honors and one other earn honorable mention. The boys had one all-conference and one honorable mention.

Prior Lake won the girls' meet in convincing fashion, tallying 24 points. The top five Laker runners all finished in the top 10. New Prague's all-conference runners were Anna Rynda (9th in 15:50.9), Jenny Hendricks (11th in 15:52.3) and Amanda Wagner (13th in 15:55.6). The Trojans had 74 points, 10 points better than third-place Shakopee (84). The rest of the field included Hutchinson (91), Holy Angels (96), Farmington (153), Red wing (195) and Northfield (219).

Also running for the Trojans were Molly Wick (19th, 16:10.0), Abbey Wymer (23rd, 16:15.9), Jacelyn Peabody (31st, 16:28.6) and Kelsey Wiebusch (39th, 16:59.5).

Shakopee won the junior varsity race, with the Trojans finishing third. Annie Dittberner was sixth, Molly Tikalsky ninth, Hallie Tietz 13th, and Natalie Rutt 17th, Danielle Tikalsky 22nd, Marie Friedges 25th and Alex Perkinson 39th.

Boys take fifth

New Prague had hoped to finish in the top half of the Missota Conference race for the first time since moving to the conference in 1979, but injuries and illness kept some of the team members from running at full strength. As a result, New Prague had a fifth-place finish at the conference meet.

Farmington edged Hutchinson for the conference title by one point. The Farmington Tigers scored 59 points while the Hutchinson tigers had 60. Red Wing was third with 90, followed by Holy Angels (103), New Prague (134), Shakopee (135), Prior Lake (145) and Northfield (163). Drew Revak was the lone Trojan to earn honorable mention honors. He completed the 5,000-meter course in 17:15.5, while Preston Tomlinson earned honorable mention with a 190th place finish, in 17:40.0. Also running for the Trojans were Neal Lambrecht (25th, 17:55.6), Marty Herrmann (29th, 18:06.7), John Solheid (50th, 18:48.9), Matt Revak (55th, 19:49.2) and Allen Friedges (56th, 19:50.4.

The Trojans finished eight in the JV race. Red Wing edged Holy Angels by one point for the JV crown. Ashton Hlavac was the top Trojan finisher, placing 29th in 19:24.0. Zach Johnson was 49th (20:06.3), followed by Andy Roach (52nd, 20:40.2), Alex Hendricks (53rd, 21:11.8), Michael Beatrez (54th, 21:22.9), Kyle Strand (55th, 21:28.2) and John Geiger (56th, 21:38.3).
