Girls hockey wins 7 of last 8

The New Prague High School girls hockey team has found its groove over the past few weeks. The team has won seven of its last eight games, winning several of them in dramatic fashion. Coach Taylor Ries and the Trojans defeated Holy Family 5-4 in overtime, scoring twice in the last minute of regulation to tie the game. The Trojans also scored a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Orono. The team is 11-9-1 on the season, 6-2-1 in the Wright County Conference.

New Prague was scheduled to play at Litchfield/ Dassel- Cokato Tuesday Jan. 23. They host Hutchinson Friday, Jan. 26, and play at Rochester John Marshall Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Graham Arena.

Trojans 5, WildFire 4 New Prague appeared in control of their Wright County Conference game against Holy Family, taking a 2-0 lead early in the second period. However the WildFire scored four straight goals to take a 4- 2 lead, and held that lead into the final minute of the game.

Katie Calliguri scored on a power play at 16:19 of the third period to pull the Trojans to within a goal, then at 16:47, Katilyn Blair scored to tie the game.

New Prague outshot Holy Family/Waconia 8-4 in the final period and with 33 seconds left in the extra session, Lindsey Bjerke scored the game-winner on assist from Catie Skaja and Abby Pirkl.

Catie Skaja scored the Trojans’ first goal at 3:06 of the second period, and Cecelia Madsen scored less than a minute later to put the Trojans up 2-0.

Bjerke, Pirkl and Skaja each had two.....
