Girls stop skid with win over Holy Angels

The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team ended their eight-game losing streak Friday with a 2-1 win over Holy Angels. Earlier in the week New Prague lost to Northfield 3-2.

The Trojans (8-13-1, 2-6 Missota) are enjoying a full week off to savor the win, then will conclude their regular season with three games in seven days. They will host Chanhassen/Chaska on Friday, Jan. 28, then go on the road to play Shakopee Tuesday, Feb. 1, and Red Wing on Thursday, Feb. 3.

The Section 1A playoffs are scheduled to begin Friday, Feb. 11. New Prague will likely need to win two, and possibly all three remaining games to have a chance to play a first round home game.

Raiders 3, Trojans 2

New Prague and Northfield faced off for the third time this season, with the Raiders prevailing 3-2.

Things started out well for the Trojans as Brittany Sticha opened the scoring at 13:45 of the first, with assists to Sophie Smith and Ashley Adams.

But the Raiders scored twice in the second period and added one in the first minute of the third. Annie Pumper had all three goals for the Raiders.

New Prague worked to get back in the game, but they did not score a goal until just 12 seconds remained in regulation when Linday Paschke scored on a Hallie Pashcke assist.

Northfield outshot the Trojans 28-21, with Shyler Sletta stopping 25 shots.

Trojans 2, Stars 1.

New Prague blasted Holy Angels with 19 shots in the first period, but didn't score until the 19th shot, with 12 seconds remained in the period, to tie the game at 1-1. Hallie Paschke got the goal, assisted by Sticha and Lindsay Paschke.

Both teams battled in the second and into the third. New Prague controlled the tempo of the game in the third and finally broke through on a Hallie Paschke goal at 14:02. Linday Pachke and Sticha had assists.

New Prauge had a 52-18 advantage in shots on goal. Sletta stopped 17 shots.
