Girls top Holy Family
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team defeated Holy Family Catholic 72-65 in a non-conference game Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The win stopped the Trojans' losing streak at three games. New Prague (5-3) will host Waseca at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, then opens its Missota Conference schedule Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Northfield.
The Trojans and Fire traded the lead in the early going, but New Prague went on a run late in the first half and led 38-31 at halftime.
New Prague never trailed in the second half, but couldn't put Holy Family away either, as every time New Prague got a couple baskets and threatened to take a commanding lead, the Fire would come back with a key basket.
New Prague had four players in double figures. Anna Rynda led the squad with 22 points, while Taylor Rookaird had 17, Maggie Seter 16 and Sara Rookaird 11 - 10 of those coming in the first half. Foul trouble limited her minutes in the second half.
Also scoring for the Trojans were Makayla Reimers with three, Lexi Ruehling with two and Lauren Carr with one.
