Grapplers win one at weekend tournament

 

The Tri-City United Wrestling Team regained its focus on the third round of the Cannon Falls Dual meet Tournament on Saturday, Feb 2, 2013, and won 1-2 rounds.
 
1st Round 
Rochester John Marshall 40, TCU 29  
 
2nd Round 
Kenyon Wanamingo 46     TCU 15
 
3rd Round   
TCU 37
Plainview Elgin Millville 30
According to TCU Coach Brian Mikel, the team went 1-2 on the day and got to see some good competition. He said the boys stumbled a bit against Kenyon, but bounced back nicely against Plainview.  
“I credit our captains with getting the guys focused for that last match,” he said. “They responded with a very good performance.”
 
The following are individual results on the day:
106 - Justin Kopet finished 0-3 and faced some very tough competition but is getting better with each match, the coach commented.
113 - Jack Mueller finished 1-2 on the day, picking up a win against Plainveiw.
120 - Jonah Johnson ended with a 2-1 record. 
“Had a very good day and picked up some valuable team points for us,” Mikel said.
126 - Levi Nelson went 2-1. Mikel said Nelson is battling a sore knee and still gutted out a couple of big wins
132- Mason Rutt went 1-2, losing a pair of very close matches.
138 - Mason Brownlee ended with 3-0. Mikel said the athlete is coming back from illness and looked very good over the weekend.
145 - Max Arroyo had a tough day going 0-3.
“Max had a tough day but wrestled well.  He keeps on improving with every match,” his coach said.
152 - Josh Selly won all three of his matches.  His coach said he showed great leadership and took care of business.
160 - Marko Arroyo went  1-2 on the day, getting a big pin against Plainveiw.
170 - Nicolaj Seitz won got his first varstiy win and showed great improvement at the tournament. 
“He is a very coachable young man!” Mikel said.
182 - Kyle Hubert had a great day going 3-0. 
“He had a big comeback victory against Kenyon, pinning his opponent after falling behind 7-1,” Mikel said.
195 - Joe Kalina lost all three of his matches. “Joe is still showing improvement and showed toughness in his matches,” the coach said.
285 - Alex Burns won one of his matches. “Alex had a couple of very tough opponents, but he continues to improve,” Mikel said.
 
Next action
The TCU wrestlers will hold their last meet on  Friday, Feb. 8 in Montgomery. It begins at 8 p.m.
