Group recommends approval of Southeast Scott Comprehensive Plan

By Patrick Fisher

In what was called a historic moment in Scott County, the planning and zoning commissions of New Market, Elko and Scott County unanimously recommended approval of the Southeast Scott County Comprehensive Plan during a joint meeting on September 16.

The meeting at New Market Area Hall was a continuation of a public hearing from July 26. The plan will help shape the area around the communities of Elko, New Market and New Market Township.

Twenty-two people attended the meeting, a mixture of residents, officials from the communities and the Metropolitan Council. In reaching the recommendation the county has had to work with the three communities, plus Rice and Dakota counties and the Metropolitan Council.

Herb Baldwin of the Scott County Planning and Zoning Commission called the decision by the three commissions a historic moment.

We’ve come to a point that we’ve wanted to be at. I want to thank you all for a heroic effort to reach this
