Gullickson and family appear on Family Feud

Area residents will be seeing Mary Beth Gullickson of New Prague on TV in the next week. Gullickson and her family are scheduled to appear on the TV game show Family Feud on Thursday, Feb. 8, on the CW, Channel 23. For Gullickson’s daughter April Ranallo, appearing on the game show is a dream come true.

“It’s always been my daughter’s dream to be on the show. She used to watch it with host Richard Dawson,” said Gullickson. Gullickson lives in New Prague and, with Jean Sticha, operates Cedar Brook Garden Center north of town, while her family is spread between St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The family found out that representatives of the show were going to be in the Twin Cities in December of 2016, holding auditions. She explained that families had to submit five names of people who would be able to audition and be on the show. Those from her family included her son Frank Ranallo, daughter-in-law Aimee, daughter April, her son Tony and herself. “It was a full day,” said Gullickson of taping the auditions. “You have to sell yourself as a family.” From there the tapes were sent to Atlanta, GA, where the show was taped.

In April, 2017, they were notified they were in the pool of families to be brought down to Atlanta. “There had to have been hundreds of people who auditioned, but not even a tenth were chosen for the tapings,” said Gullickson. In July they flew down for two days where they went through another audition process. “Each family had to audition on stage,” said Gullickson. They were then chosen to be among the families to be taped for a show, although they had to come back on the second day. Their family was put up in a nice hotel for the night.
