Gymnasts vault past Lakers, tumble to Raiders

The New Prague Trojan gymnastics team continued to show improvement during two Missota Conference gymnastics meets last week, as they defeated Prior Lake and lost to Northfield.

Coach Matt Shetka's squad was scheduled to compete at Lakeville North Tuesday. They have three meets in the the coming week. On Friday they host Farmington at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday they compete in the Jackson Sweetheart Invitational at 11 a.m., and on Tuesday, Jan. 23, they have a conference meet at Red Wing at 6:30 p.m.

Trojans 137.075, Lakers 125.725

New Prague dominated in their meet at Prior Lake Tuesday, Jan. 9. The Trojans won all but two of the top four spots in the four events.

Melanie Deutsch had one of her best showings of the season. The senior not only won the all-around competition with a score of 36.275, but took first place in each of the four events as well.

Shelbie Johnson tied for second on the bars and placed third on the beam. Brittany Ellanson was second on the beam third on the floor and fourth on the bars and Jess Hoffman was second on the floor. Alysha Gareis placed third on the vault, Ashley Wagner was tied for second on the bars, Steph Mach was fourth on the vault and Laura Busch was fourth on the beam.

He said there were a lot of positive things that happened in the meet, especially on the vault. We just haven't put it all together yet
