James Daleiden, 62

James C. Daleiden, 62, of Savage, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, after a battle with liposarcoma.

Born October 22, 1946, in Northfield, Jim was a son of Leonard and Lydia (Landa) Daleiden. He graduated from Montgomery High School (now Montgomery-Lonsdale) in 1964, and St. Thomas College in 1968, with a degree in accounting. He then followed with a master's degree in business taxation from the University of Minnesota. Jim and Betty Kadrlik were married on May 9, 1970, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. In his early years, baseball played an important role in Jim's life. As a pitcher in high school, he pitched three no- hit baseball games in a four week period. Along with earning all-conference honors in three sports, he received the award for being top athlete in his senior class. Playing for Lonsdale in the Dakota Rice Scott (DRS) men's amateur baseball league, he compiled an estimated 50-8 record as a pitcher over his eight years. He helped Lonsdale win six league and two regional championships before retiring from baseball at the age of 23. He passed all four parts of the CPA exam in 1973. He accumulated lifelong friendships as controller at Werner Continental, Inc., and then entered the field of public accounting in 1978. His final work station was as a tax partner with Boulay Heutmaker Zibell & Co., P.L.L.P (BHZ), where he likened the partners and employees at to an extended family. He volunteered on numerous boards and charities including Shakopee Rotary (past president), which was Jim's favorite service organization; Savage Chamber of Commerce (past president); Savage City Council, planning commission and audit committee; and founding director of the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority. He was active in the Minnesota Taxpayers Association and the Minneapolis CPA Tax Roundtable. In 1999, the Minnesota Society of CPA's awarded Jim with its Public Service Award, which recognized the top volunteer effort among its 9,500 members.

He is survived by his wife; his parents; siblings Joe (Connie), Lonsdale, Tim (Eleanor), Minneapolis and Karen (Richard) Peterson, Richfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Fritz, who died in 1978.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage, with Rev. Mike Tix officiating.

Interment was at St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Godsons Mike Daleiden, Jim Daleiden, Paul Daleiden and Justin Daleiden, and friends Duane Gregory and Terry Hennes. Visitation was held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee, and Friday from 9 to 9:50 a.m. at the church.
