James Kunelius, 61

James C. “Jim” Kunelius, 61, of Waterville, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

Jim was born in Waseca on December 23, 1951, a son of John Elmer and Donitza “Dee” (Lumovich) Kunelius.  Following high school, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College where he belonged to the Nu Upsilon Gamma Fraternity, played basketball, and earned a degree in biology with a minor in religion.  On December 31, 1975, he married Mary Louise Anderson in Thief River Falls.  Jim went on to work for over 28 years as a Production Planner for R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Chanhassen. He was a member of North Waseca Lutheran Church, where he held various positions on the church council over the years. Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He was a life member of NRA. 

He is survived by his wife; children Leigh (Randy) King, Caledonia, John (Jayme) Kunelius, Lonsdale, and David Kunelius (and girlfriend Jill Geisler), Mayer; four grandchildren Megan King, Andrew Kunelius, Mason King and Grant King; a brother Don (Sue) Kunelius, Eagan; three nieces Elizabeth (Jason) Namyst, Lakeville, Sara (Jon) Nelson, Salt Lake City, UT, and Caryn Anderson (Harry Sukamaran), Bloomfield Hills, MI; and two nephews Chris (Kelle) Anderson, Hudson, WI, and Chad Anderson, Brainerd.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law Harvey and Ester Anderson; his brother and sister-in-law Mark and Maureen Anderson; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, at North Waseca Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Nancy Hansen officiating. 

Interment is at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville. 

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and Wednesday for one hour before the service at the church.
