James Prokes, 92

James E. Prokes, 92, of Plymouth, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at the Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth.

Born July 19, 1917, in New Prague, he was a son of Wencl and Mary (Sticha) Prokes. He was raised in New Prague and attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School. James married Elsie Stepka in May, 1946, at St. Patrick. They lived in Montgomery after marriage and moved to Morristown in 1952, where they farmed until 1955, when they moved to Waterville. He was a crop and dairy farmer south of New Prague, drove school bus in Waterville for 21 years and also worked for the Northrup King Feed & Seed Plant in Waterville for about 20 years. James moved to Faribault in 1990 and moved to the nursing home in Plymouth in 2009.

He is survived by a son Richard (Mary Claire) Prokes, Faribault; two grandsons Justin (Heather) Prokes, Northfield and Ryan Prokes, Faribault; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on October 26, 1990; his parents; and siblings Ben Prokes and Marie Jilek.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, at 11 a.m., at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague. Urn bearers were grandsons.

Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home.
