Jeep, semi collide on icy bridge

A 2002 Jeep Liberty collided head-on with a 1993 Kenworth semi truck on an icy bridge just south of Waterville on Highway 60, Wednesday, January 20. The accident occurred at 11:30 a.m.

The Jeep, driven by Mitchell Kusick, age 27, of Faribault, was westbound when it lost control on the icy bridge deck, crossed the center line, and was struck by the semi, driven by David Jenkins, age 57, of New Prague.

Kusick was transported to District 1 Hospital in Faribault with non-life threatening injuries.

Jenkins sustained “no apparent injury.”

The Jeep and the semi suffered “severe” damage.

Both Kusick and Jenkins were wearing seat belts. Kusick’s airbag deployed. No alcohol was detected.

The Waterville Fire, North Ambulance and Waterville Police assisted at the scene and closed the roadway until rescue crews and members of the State Patrol cleared the site. The State Patrol is investigating this incident.
