John Jesberg Jr., 86

John H. Jesberg Jr., 86, of New Prague, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming, MN.

John was born on March 13, 1925, in Minneapolis, a son of John and Rose (Roehl) Jesberg. He attended Central High School, Minneapolis Public Schools. He lived in Minneapolis and Bloomington, and the last 33 years on Cedar Lake, New Prague. John was a proud member of the Greatest Generation. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII (1943-46), with the rank of Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Tulagi in the battle of Guadalcanal “Iwo Jima,” and also at the invasion of Normandy. John married Florence Anita Zywicki on June 18, 1949, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Moose Lake. He was a painter and master wood finisher in the decorating business, working until he was 79 years old.

He is survived by his wife; four children Tom, Ronald, Jacqueline Buccanan and Pamela Sirko; seven grandsons and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings Jean Jensen and Donald Jesberg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Rev. David Barrett officiated.

Interment was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Visitation was held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
