Kilkenny horseshoe tossers defeat Montgomery Club

The Kilkenny Horseshoe Club hosted and was victorious over the Montgomery Club on Wednesday, June 19, by the score of 3,669 to 3,660. The win brought the traveling trophy back to Kilkenny.

The Montgomery Club won the playoff in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2012, with Kilkenny gaining victories in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and this year.

A tie shootout in 2011 evened the series at 5 1/2 games apiece.

Pacing the Kilkenny Club were Don Swift with a match high of 289, and Jacob David with a 288 and Bob Waugh at 285 contributing to the win.

Montgomery had two more players, and it was agreed upon that all players would participate, but two of Montgomery’s lowest scores in the first round would not count in the match total score.

Charles Haan, Jim Cox and Richard David were high scorers for Montgomery with a 286 each.

The fellowship following the competition was enjoyed by all, with the traveling trophy being presented to Kilkenny by Dick David, Montgomery’s director.
