Lakers end Trojan winning streak

The New Prague/Montgomery-Lonsdale boys hockey team saw its five-game winning streak stopped Friday with a 4-3 loss to Prior Lake.

Earlier in the week, the Trojans had an impressive 5-1 win over Red Wing. The team had a 14-4-0 record (6-2-0 Missota) going into Tuesday's game against Shakopee.

The Trojans will travel to Richfield Friday, Feb. 2, for a 7:30 p.m. game against Holy Angels, ranked No. 1 in Class AA. They travel to Hutchinson on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and will play at Northfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

Trojans 5, Winger 1

Red Wing came in hoping to challenge the Trojans and stay in contention for the No. 2 spot in the Missota Conference. The Wingers scored a power play goal just 1:18 into the game.

But Schyler Adams evened the score at 1-1 at 14:29 of the period, with assists to Drew Feuk and Tyler Lapic.

The second period belonged to New Prague, as the Trojans scored three goals and outshot the Wingers 14-6. Nate Thomas got the first goal, at 4:45, while Pat Perkinson scored at 10:21 and Ryan Witty cored shorthanded at 12:39.

Feuk added a goal in the third period to make the final 5-1.

Brandon Palma stopped 22 of 23 shots and got the win in goal. New Prague outshot the Wingers 29-23.

Lakers 3, Trojans 2

After getting beat by the Trojans 6-1 just a week earlier, Prior Lake chose to play a more physical game, and the Trojans weren't able to sustain an attack in a 3-2 loss.

Prior Lake scored first at 2:24 of the first period, but Alec Doig tied it at 1-1 with a shorthanded goal at 3:35.

The Trojans took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Feuk at 11:09, but Prior Lake tied it at 11:08 of the second period.

The teams battled throughout the balance of the game. The Trojans had lots of scoring chances, but couldn't bury the puck. The Lakers got the winning goal at 5:39 of the third

Palma stopped 13 of 16 shots. The Trojans outshot Prior Lake 35-16,
