Lakers hold off Trojan comeback in 2AA hockey

After a lackluster first two periods, the New Prague Trojan boys hockey team turned on the heat and came within inches of tying their Section 2AA quarterfinal game against Prior Lake Thursday, Feb. 22. However they were unable to overcome a 4-1 deficit and lost to the Lakers 5-3.

The loss ended the Trojans’ season with an 11-12-3 record.

The Trojans entered the playoffs with the No. 6 seed in their new post-season home, Section 2AA. Increasing enrollment moved the Trojans to Class AA for the 2017-18 season.

In their first Class AA playoff game, the Lakers controlled the action, outshooting the Trojans 12-2 in the opening period. The Lakers scored at 4:10 of the first with a goal by Preston Underhill, with Charlie Kashmark assisting. The Trojans managed to hold off the Lakers for the rest of the period and trailed 1-0 going into the intermission.

That changed quickly in the second. The Lakers scored two quick goals, both by Jackson Jutting, to take a 3-0 lead.
