Le Sueur Co. holds open house on zoning

Jake Keohen, Montgomery Messenger

Le Sueur County Planning & Zoning Administrator Kathy Brockway said approximately 75-100 people were in attendance for a Zoning Open House held Monday, Jan. 9, at the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds in Le Center.

Also in attendance were members of the county board, the county administrator/engineer, zoning staff and Planning & Zoning Commission members.

The open house was held to give county residents an opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns related to revisions being proposed for the county zoning ordinance.

Brockway said comments, questions and suggestions brought out that evening covered a wide range, including setbacks for mineral extraction, tree setbacks from road, shoreland regulations, size of feedlots, contractors and construction companies in Ag District and transfer of development rights.

The last comprehensive review of the county's zoning ordinance was in 1996. Since then, the county has experienced additional growth and new land use issues have occurred.

Brockway said the zoning staff started the ordinance revisions process in September of 2007. We adopted some immediate action items in 2009 and continued working on the proposed changes
