Le Sueur Co. Officials elect executive board

The Le Sueur County Officials Association held their monthly meeting January 25 in Waterville at The Village.

Fourteen individuals from around the county attended the meeting, which included election of officers, a presentation from The Village director Dan Guarraro, and updates from city and county representatives.

Chuck Nickolay, New Prague Mayor, was elected chairman of the association.

This is the first time an executive board has been established.

Clinton Stoen, Elysian Mayor, was elected vice chairman.

Lorri Kopischke, Elysian City Administrator was named secretary.

Teresa Hill, Waterville City Administrator, was named treasurer.

Following a brief presentation from Guarraro, roundtable discussions continued with cities presenting shared updates and news from their respective communities.

Waterville: Teresa Hill said the City of Waterville is working with FEMA on flood funding, the new wastewater treatment plant should be operational in March, working with the DNR and DOT on a hydraulic study, found Asian milfoil on Lake Tetonka, and is working on a new rate structure for sewer and water.

Elysian: Lorri Kopischke mentioned the Feb. 5 Lake Francis Ice Fishing Contest and the city is working on expanding their city park.

Attorney Jason Moran represents a number of the communities in the county as their city attorney. He discussed the Affordable Care Act and special assessments for road improvements and utilities.
