Le Sueur County shrinks size of Planning and Zoning Commission

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners approved a change to the County Planning and Zoning (P & Z) Commission during its Tuesday, Jan. 17, meeting.

On a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner John King voting against, the commissioners will change the P & Z Commission from 11 members to 7, effective March 1, 2017.

This change, according to Kathy Brockway, will save the county approximately $3,000 in per diem fees, with dollars dropping from $8,000 to $5,200. Brockway said the majority of the counties in the state have seven member P & Z Commissions.

The seven members will be appointed by Steve Rohlfing, Le Sueur County Board Chairman. Each of the five county commissioner districts will have one member. There will be two other at large members chosen, along with one commissioner holding an ex-officio position. The vice chairperson, who is currently Lance Wetzel, had served in the ex officio position in the past.

Commissioners now have to decide which current P & Z members will retain their positions.
