Legion opens playoffs Thursday in Burnsville
The New Prague American Legion baseball team will open the Sub-State 5 Tournament Thursday, July 25, against Lakeville South. That game will be played at 4:30 p.m. at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.
There are nine teams in the Sub-State playoffs. New Prague received the No. 4 seed. They defeated Lakeville South in a meeting earlier this year.
All tournament games are played either at Legion Field in Apple Valley or Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.
The eight and nine seeds, St. Paul Park and Farmington, were scheduled to play Monday in a play-in game to the eight-team double elimination tournament.
First round pairings are: • Game 1 - Lakeville South vs. New Prague, 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Alimagnet
• Game 2 - Inver Grove Heights vs. Apple Valley, 4:30 p.m. at Apple Valley
• Game 3 - Burnsville vs. play-in winner, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Alimagnet
• Game 4 - Rosemount vs. Woodbury Blue, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Apple Valley.
Second round games will be played Friday, July 26. New Prague will play either Burnsville or the play-in winner Friday at Alimagnet. A loser's bracket game would be played at 4:30 p.m., while the winners bracket plays at 7:30 p.m. Play continues with games beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in Apple Valley. If a second game is needed, it would be played at 4 p.m. The tournament winner earns a berth in the State American Legion Tournament August 2-5 in Edina.
