New Prague 13, St. Peter 3

After Ben Bartelt threw a no-hitter two weeks earlier, Kyle Bergstrom nearly duplicated the feat Saturday in Lonsdale, as New Prague defeated St. Peter 13-3 in six innings.

Bergstrom did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, and he allowed only one. Unfortunately, control problems led to four walks and four hit batsmen, and that contributed to the three St. Peter runs, along with an error.

Bergstrom gave way to Seurer in the final inning. Seurer walked two but allowed no runs.

New Prague scored in the first when Goldsmith reached on an error, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Seurer.

In the second, Kevin Kalina got a leadoff single and Kyle Kalina drove him in with a double. Kyle Kalina was thrown out at third on a nice relay throw.

Jon Beckius followed with a double, and he scored on a hit by Goldsmith.

With the score 3-2, New Prague got three runs in the third, with Ambroz getting a leadoff single and Bergstrom doubling to drive in a run. A single by Kubes, a passed ball and an error scored two more runs, making it 6-2.

New Prague scored five in the fourth inning. Goldsmith got a leadoff double and scored on a hit by Bisek. With two outs, Bergstrom singled and Tony Kubes drove in a pair of runs with a triple. Kevin Kalina singled to score a run, and Kyle Kalina walked. Jon Beckius drove in a run with a base hit.

New Prague ended the game in the sixth inning on the 10-run rule. Adam Gill led off with a double. He scored on a base hit by Alex Haag. After Luke Hanzel drew a walk, Kyle Kalina reached on a fielder’s choice. Goldsmith singled to drive in a run and end the game.

Goldsmith went 4-for-5 with two doubles, and also reached on an error, putting him on base five times. He scored a pair of runs and drove in a pair.

Bergstrom was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and two RBIs. Kubes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple, while Kevin Kalina was 2-for-3 and Beckius 2-for-4.

Bergstrom pitched five innings allowing one hit and three runs, one of them earned. Seurer pitched one inning, walking two and striking out one.
