Legion team wins 3 of 4

With the regular season winding down, the New Prague American Legion baseball team has found a groove, winning three of four games in the past week.

New Prague defeated Hastings, lost to Northfield, then won both ends of a doubleheader with Faribault.

Post 45 was scheduled to face New Ulm Tuesday. They close the season with a game at Rosemount Thursday, July 14, and then host Chanhassen on Friday, July 15.

Seeding for the Sub-State playoffs was scheduled to take place Wednesday evening. New Prague is in a group with eight other teams - Faribault, Fairmont, Mankato American, Mankato National, Jordan, New Ulm, Worthington and Sleepy Eye.

With a 5-9 record, Coach Brian Lindner expects his team to be seeded in the 6 to 8 range.

The Substate playoffs begin with an elimination game between the eighth and ninth seeds Monday, July 18, then a double elimination tournament begins Wednesday, July 21. All games will be played in New Ulm.

New Prague 5, Hastings 4 New Prague and Hastings took turns with the lead until Post 45 took a 5-3 lead in the fourth inning and held on for the win.

New Prague took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Logan Reger singled and Brady O’Neill reached on an error. Luke Zweber’s sacrifice fly brought in one run and the second came in when Jack Becker reached on an error.

Hastings tied it in the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third, but New Prague tied it. Reger reached on an error, stole second and scored on a base hit by O’Neill.

Post 45 scored the winning runs in the fourth. Jack Krouse singed and stole second, then Sherman walked. Both came home when Reger reached base.

Bridger Hahn started and went four innings to take the win. He allowed five hits and three runs. Will Forberg got the save, pitching three innings of relief.

Northfield 3, New Prague 1 Luke Zweber pitched well, allowing just four hits in five innings, but took the hardluck loss in a 3-1 defeat to Northfield.

Northfield scored in the first, but New Prague tied it in the third when Jacob Mader reached on an error, was sacrificed to second and scored on a base hit by Reger.

Zweber pitched five innings for the win. Noah Wicklander pitched two innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out one. Reger had two of New Prague’s four hits, with Zweber and Hahn getting the others.

New Prague 10, Faribault 4 New Prague took the first game of a doubleheader with Faribault by a 10-4 score.
