Legion team wins playoff opener

The New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team won its opening round game in the Sub-State playoffs with a 2-1 decision over Lakeville South Thursday, July 25.

Post 45 got both their runs in the fifth inning via four singles and a sacrifice bunt.

Daniel Feneis pitched a complete game for the win, striking out six and scattering five hits in nine innings. Legion playoff games are nine innings long, rather than the seven inning games played in the regular season. 

Other first round games in the double-elimination tournament:

Burnsville 5, Farmington 0

Inver Grove Heights 3, Apple Valley 2

Woodbury Blue 4, Rosemount 3

Friday's schedule:

At Burnsville Alimagnet Park:

4:30 p.m. Farmington vs. Lakeville South (loser eliminated)

7:30 p.m. Burnsville vs. New Prague

At Apple Valley Legion Field:

4:30 p.m. Apple Valley vs. Rosemount (loser eliminated)

7:30 p.m. Inver Grove Heights vs. Woodbury Blue 

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday.
