Leona Adams, 92

  Leona Wilhemina Adams, 92, of Le Center, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Le Center.

Leona was born on April 14, 1916, on her home farm in Lexington Township, a daughter of Henry and Ida (Kolander) Tiede. She graduated from McKinley High School in Le Center and then attended teacher's training. Leona taught for three years in Dresselville, then farmed with her husband, Walter Carl Adams, who she married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center on October 27, 1937. She also worked outside the home at Farmer Seed & Nursery, Spors, Brinktons, and then at Emma Krumbees Restaurant, where she was known as the Apple Queen. Leona was a very active volunteer, serving for Catholic Charities CARE Project and Service for the Aging at Centennial Plaza, as well as many others. She was acknowledged for her service in 1994 when she received the Le Sueur County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award.

She is survived by six children Donald (Joyce), Madison Lake, Kenneth (Debra), Le Center, Clifford, Spring Lake Park, Rita (Jim) Smisek, Lonsdale, Robert (Susan), New Prague, and Colleen (Steve) Matters, Eagan; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Barbara Jean in infancy; and a brother Wilmer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center at 10:30 a.m. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center. 

Visitation was held at the Le Center Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, from 4 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
