Lloyd Svoboda, 76
Lloyd J. Svoboda, 76, of New Prague, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.
Born January 11, 1931, in New Prague, Lloyd was a son of John A. and Ida (Ruhland) Svoboda. He attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. On May 8, 1954, he married Dorothy Handsuch in Montgomery. He was employed as hydraulic supervisor at Continental Machine in Savage for 41 years. Lloyd was a member of the New Prague American Legion Post (past commander) and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. He did bookings for many years at the Park Ballroom in New Prague.
He is survived by his wife; children Cheryl (John) Bastyr, Owatonna, Terri (Wayne) Bentson, Urbandale, IA, Jim (Barb) Svoboda, Bel Aire, MD and Shelly (Kevin) Spielberger, Chaska; siblings Alvin Svoboda, Belle Plaine, LeRoy (Martha) Svoboda, New Prague, Sam (Marian) Svoboda, Bloomington and Virginia (James) Scanlan, Tucson, AZ; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ralph Svoboda (at age 3); brother and sister-in-law Jerome and Ruth Svoboda; and sister-in-law Julia Svoboda.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.
Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were grandsons Andrew and Jacob Bastyr, Ben Kading, Christian Svoboda, Zachary Spielberger, Eric and Tyler Spielberger.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with a KC rosary recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
