Local mountain biking team has strong season

The New Prague Composite Mountain Bike team had a strong showing this past season. Twenty athletes from New Prague, Londsdale, Belle Plaine, Farmington and Cologne teamed up to ride and race on the New Prague Composite Mountain Bike Team. Students from seventh to 12th grade participated in five races finishing with the State Championships at Mount Kato, near Mankato, on October 28-29.

The team was formed three years ago and has grown every year. Coached by Chuck Jacobs and Jon Rosemeier the athletes have exceeded expectations with lots of podium finishes. Most notably would be eighth grader, Sydney Stenger of New Prague. Stenger took first in the state for eighth grade girls. Nora Rosemeier and Selah Scherman, both of New Prague, took third in their age categories. Ben Frensko of Cologne, Joey Lenz of Belle Plaine and Nathan Pierce of New Prague also placed, receiving medals at the award ceremony held on Friday, Nov. 10. Scoring is as individuals as well as teams with the top five bikers receiving points for their team. New Prague Middle School took home third in the state out of more than 50 teams.
