Local shooters score big at Southern Grand

During the second week of March, freshman Woodrow Glazer and senior Ben Dietz travelled to Odessa, FL, to compete at the 2016 Southern Grand.

Competitors at the Southern Grand travelled from many states and countries to compete in 15 trapshooting events that were held throughout the week.

There were more than 500 athletes competing in many of the events.

Both New Prague shooters earned more than 100 All American points during the competition; Glazer placed in 10 events as a sub-junior and Dietz placed in five events as a Junior Gold.

During the championship events Dietz shot a 199 out of 200 in singles, 92 out of 100 in doubles and 96 out of 100 in handicap from the 27 yard line.

Glazer shot a 198 out of 200 in singles, 87 out of 100 in doubles and 97 out of 100 in handicap from the 24 yard line.

A few highlights of the competition included Glazer being the overall champion in a handicap event and Dietz winning the High All Around in his category.

Both are members of the New Prague High School Clay Target Team.
