Lonsdale Council helps with Community Days

The Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) reported that Lonsdale Community Days is shaping up to be an action packed festival with a long list of events. Topping the city council regular meeting agenda on Thursday, June 13, LACC Treasurer Pastor Howard White requested city assistance with the event. White spoke of a partnership between businesses and the city to provide what is necessary to pull off the three-day schedule which attracts hundreds to town.

City Administrator Joel Erickson told the council that the requested items were the same as what was asked for last year, with the exception of the Lonsdale Liquor sponsorship of $100.

The council thanked White and the LACC for the work in planning the weekend, and approved the following requested items: A temporary on-sale liquor license, an interim use permit for a drive-in movie at the Fred's IGA/Herrmann Drug parking lot, use of city property at Main St. S, use of Trenda Memorial Park parking lot and bathrooms, extra police and public works staff hours ($3,000), mosquito spraying ($725), a sponsorship from Lonsdale Liquor ($100), porta-potties ($1,500) and road closures. Cost to the city totaled $5,325.

Lonsdale Community Days is scheduled for August 9-11 and will include a car cruise, live concerts, inflatables, a tractor-truck-semi pull, parade, and more.

Other Items:

• The council approved annual liquor licenses for the following: Lonsdale American Legion, Flicek's Sports Bar & Grill, Whistle Stop Tavern & Grill, Lonsdale Lions, Lonsdale Baseball Association and Lonsdale Liquor. Erickson stated that Casey's General Store chose not to renew their license.

• A public hearing for assessing delinquent accounts was set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 11. This includes past due water/sewer, fire calls and miscellaneous past due accounts owed to the city.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m on Thursday, June 27.
