Lonsdale Legion team drops 2 in District tourney

Lonsdale's Post 586 American Legion baseball team dropped both of its games in the Third District Division II tournament in Lonsdale, falling to Jordan on Saturday and Elysian on Sunday.

Lonsdale gave up six runs in the first inning against Jordan on their way to a 7-2 loss. Matt Rud was the starting pitcher, but had control problems and gave way to Justin Scheffler after only five batters. Scheffler shut down Jordan, allowing only five hits the rest of the way, but the damage was already done.

Lonsdale outhit Jordan 8-6. Rud homered in the second for Lonsdale and had two hits. Nick Nelson was 2-for-3 and Adam Bastyr, Justin Scheffler, Travis Scheffler and Craig Scheffler all had hits.

In the second round, Lonsdale scored three runs in the first inning, but couldn't hang on as Elysian came back for a 15-5 win.

Bastyr and Justin Scheffler led off the first with singles, with Rud, Jon Trnka and Travis Scheffler all getting RBI singles.

Lonsdale led 4-0 going into the fifth inning, when Elysian cut the lead to 4-2.

Trnka gave up a pair of hits to open the sixth inning, and Rud came on in relief. Justin Scheffler and Nelson followed him in succession as Elysian's bats came alive in the inning, scoring 13 runs.

Trnka was 2-for-3 with a walk and Justin Scheffler was 2-for-4.
