LS County kids get chance to 'Shop With a Cop'

Twenty kids from cities in Le Sueur County will spend the evening of December 6 enjoying holiday activities with local law enforcement, members of Heritage Church, and Salvation Army volunteers.
The fun begins at 5 p.m. at Shopko Hometown in New Prague, where Le Sueur County law enforcement members will help the kids in grades K–3 shop for winter wear. The children will also pick out presents for their families and receive food for Christmas meals.
At 6 p.m., the children will ride in the police officers’ squad cars to Heritage United Methodist Church in New Prague for more fun activities, including a pizza party, decorating cookies, singing Christmas carols, and wrapping the presents they bought for their families.
Event sponsors include The Salvation Army, the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Department, Heritage Church, and Casey’s General Store.
The event is made possible by donations to Salvation Army red kettles in New Prague, Montgomery, and Le Sueur. Kettle donations also fund local Salvation Army programs such as food shelf, rent assistance, and other emergency services.
Volunteer bell ringers raise an average of $30 per hour for Salvation Army services. To sign up for a shift in Le Sueur County, call Sarah at Scott Equipment in New Prague at 952-758-2385.
