Maynard Harms, 77

Maynard F. Harms, 77, of Belle Plaine died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.

Harms was a longtime agriculture teacher in Belle Plaine, and also taught five years in New Prague. Fifty years ago he was one of the founders of Bar-B-Q Days, Belle Plaine's summer celebration. He also served as manager of the Scott County Fair for 25 years, overseeing the fair's move from its site in Jordan to the present site just outside the city. He served two terms as mayor, from 2001 to 2004. Harms also volunteered in many areas in the community.

Earlier this year Harms was inducted into the Minnesota FFA Hall of Fame.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Visitation was scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, and two hours prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
