Medallion Hunt is new for Kolacky Days

Super sleuths will have the chance to win $100 in Monty Bucks in the first-ever Kolacky Days Medallion Hunt that begins Monday, July 24.

The event is sponsored by the Montgomery Area Community Club (MACC), the organization responsible for Kolacky Days. MACC President Tom Washa said the organization came up with the idea of a medallion hunt after the 2014 Celebration.

“We conducted a post-festival survey to see what we were doing right and what we could do better. One question was asking for ideas or things people wanted to see and do,” Washa stated. “ From that, we formed a subcommittee of board members that looked at the weekend overall to see what we could accomplish as volunteers. From those 25 or so ideas, we added the Outdoor Movie via the TCU Community Education Office, the US National Prune Spitting Contest and Polk Dance Off. Last fall, we revisited that list from 2014 and looked at our findings from the 2016 survey.  The biggest desire was Kids and Teen Activities. We had a small group meet and talk about this subject and from that the Medallion Hunt surfaced as something we could put on with limited resources or need for additional help.”

Clues for the Medallion Hunt will be posted by 9 a.m. each day until the medallion is found and the MACC has been notified. Clues will be posted on the Montgomery Messenger website montgomerymnnews.com, its Facebook page, on the front door of the Messenger office (310 First Street S.), MACC’s social media outlets, its website kolackydays.com, and on KCHK radio.

Official rules and guidelines state that the medallion is hidden on public property in an easily accessible place within city limits. It is not located at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, private property or school grounds.
There is no age restriction to the searchers, and the hunt is open to everyone except the MACC board members, Messenger and KCHK employees and their immediate families.

When the medallion is found and MACC has been notified, notice will be posted on Facebook, on KCHK radio and in the Montgomery Messenger.

If the medallion is not found, the hunt will end on Monday, July 31 and the prize will roll over to next year.
